Biography & Life
(California USA., 2022) Ma Irma Murguía Sahagún, is the third of five children, daughter of Salvador Murguía and Ma del Rosario Sahagún, a Mexican born in the small town of Poncitlán located 45 minutes from the beautiful pearl of Guadalajara, Jalisco. Among her works are Neptune the Ice Giant, a work that has taken her to radio and television interviews and Fello the Camel, with great critical and commercial success reaching Germany. Anthology (pieces of absence) is a story of loss and grief of which proceeds are donated to the association of children with cancer in Mexico City D.F.
Irma completed her studies, Kindergarten Librada Vega C., J. Jesús Gonzales Gallo, EST#6, then she did several short careers as a programmer, analyst CBTIS 201, and first aid nurse for the Mexican Red Cross, at which at 16 years old she immigrated to the US, where she stills lives in the city of Altadena, CA.
Like every immigrant, she went to work; sewing and cleaning houses. She then went to the Los Angeles Flower Design school to prepare for a better future. Her dream was to have a flower shop, but fate gave her the opportunity to write when her only son, Jonathan Bernabe, was born. When she arrived in the United States in 1992 there was no literature in Spanish so she decided to write her son his own stories. In 2020 when COVID arrived she stayed home and dusted off her old stories and finished several of them. It was here that she began her career as a writer.
Bernabe is the last name of her husband, Juan José. And because she is known in her community as such (and because her son asked her to) she decided to use this as her author’s name.
Irma has dedicated her life to serving her community, singing in the choir at Sacred Heart Church in Altadena CA, teaching religion classes for over 16 years, and also teaching art classes and workshops at the Pasadena/Altadena Coalition of Transformative Leaders, Grupo Ta'yer, for the Latino community.
